You will find more than enough reasons to wander here:
- The Parque Natural das Serras de Aire e Candeeiros' spectacular landscapes;
- The Mira de Aire, Santo António, Moeda and Alvados' caves, where you will be amazed by sculptures made by water;
- The windswept sand waves on the Pedrogão dunes;
- The practically untouched, mysterious, sweet nature of the Lagoa de Óbidos;
- And all of the seaside coast.
There are also man-made wonders to be seen:
- The Pinhal do Rei - probably the first planned environmental intervention in Portugal, with it's acres of pine planted in the 12th century;
- The unique farmland patchwork views of Chão de Pias, Vale de Andorinha or the Planalto de Santo António;
- Rich archeological stations: pre-historic caves, copper-age "castros", roman settlements, bridges and aqueducts, arab castles,...
- And some of the most beautiful churches in Portugal and Europe.
If you prefer to simply walk and dive into the landscape there are plenty of trails to explore. Don't miss the one between São Martinho and Salir do Porto along the coast.
